Long hair FUE transplant

Hey everyone! I could really use your advice on something. I'm 36 and have been dealing with significant hair thinning in my temples since I was 26. By the time I hit 30, I had lost most of the hair there. Now, I've stabilized in a NW II pattern and I'm considering a hair transplant. Here's the thing: I've had long hair since my teenage years and I'm pretty attached to it. The problem is, most hair transplant procedures seem to require shaving your head. But I've heard about something called Long Hair FUE transplant, where you can keep your hair length. Do any of you know a doctor who does this successfully? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi tzorva, first of all, let me tell you that for someone who has long hair and doesn't want to be shaved for an HT there are two options. In the first option you can shave only parts of the donor area and get the necessary grafts you need which you can then put in the recipient area. In this case the shaved sections are covered by the remaining hair that falls out and nothing is visible. In the second option there are indeed some clinics that do the so called long FUE transplant in which they extract the whole graft including the hair(s) and place it in the recipient area. In this case indeed the transplant can be classified as unshaven. This case is considerably more difficult and time consuming and the clinics that do it are very few. One that I know and shows good results in long FUE is MxCapilar in Mexico.

I have also heard good things about the mxcapilar clinic in Mexico. It seems to be an up-and-comer in the field.

Thank you for your answers in such a short time. I visit the clinic's website, which looks impressive, but the subpage regarding their results was not working. However, I did a google search and saw several good reviews and then visited their FB page on which I was able to see videos of their results. I think I will book a consultation with them. Besides, I have always wanted to go to Mexico and maybe this is an opportunity to combine this trip with a hair transplant. Two in one!!!!

Hi tzorva, it is indeed as Hairquest says, just keep in mind two things. In unshaven sessions, especially in LONG HAIR FUE the grafts that can be extracted are much less than in a regular shave session. Therefore it is not for everyone, but mainly for those who have a small baldness problem i.e. small NW. In addition, it takes away the advantage that shaving gives to the recipient which relates to the possibility for the doctor to have a very clear picture of where and how to put the graft (angle, direction etc). In any case it is something that can be done and in fact recently some clinics have been doing it successfully. MxCapilar is one of them.

Thank you for your answer scalpchampion. Actually my problem is not so big. I only need to cover part of my temples. I think for my case Long FUE is the only solution.

In addition to the above, it should be kept in mind that whether you get a very short hair graft (i.e. via a shaved session) or a long hair graft (i.e. via Long FUE) both hairs will fall off the graft during the first month and will start coming out again from the third month onwards. Of course, it is not certain that they will all fall off or that they will all fall off at once, but certainly the majority will.

.... I hadn't considered that, but I still prefer that, to suddenly having short hair with transplanted grafts that are directly visible to the eye. I mean, after the third month hair will just pop out of a normal redness-free head and therefore won't look unnatural.

I found this video from Mxcapilar which shows Long Hair FUE in eyebrows, quite impressive...
