Hey everyone,

I had a hair transplant a few months ago and I'm a bit worried. I smoke about 10 cigarettes a day and I'm wondering how this might affect my new hair growth. Has anyone here smoked during their hair transplant journey? Did it impact your results?

I know smoking isn't great overall, but I'm curious about real experiences. If you've got any advice or stories, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi Salamander2023,

I understand your concerns about smoking after your hair transplant.

Based on a study from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9069908/), shows that smoking can have a negative impact on the healing process and the overall success of a hair transplant.

The research highlights that smoking can impair blood flow to the scalp, which is crucial for the nourishment and healing of the transplanted grafts. This can potentially lead to a lower rate of graft survival, meaning your results might not be as full or as healthy as they could be if you weren't smoking.

It could be advantageous to consider reducing your cigarette consumption until you reach 12 months post-surgery. This could improve your chances of a successful transplant and healthier hair growth.

I hope this info helps, and I wish you the best on your recovery journey!

although I agree with admin and generally believe that smoking is a stupid habit, I have to say that if your transplant was done a few months ago, whatever was going to happen to you with smoking in terms of graft survival has already happened. Theoretically, what admin mentions is mostly about the first period after the transplant, and I think the overall effects on graft germination from smoking after the first month are negligible.
